The shortlist for the 2017 Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize for New and Emerging Poets has been announced, including former QWC members Zenobia Frost and Rae White!

The shortlisted poems are:

  • ‘Guarded by Birds’ and ‘Dropbear Poetics’ (Evelyn Araluen)
  • ‘Lepidopera’ (Zenobia Frost)
  • ‘The Love My Way Variations’ (Alex Griffins)
  • ‘Styx: a series of diary entries’ (Raelee Lancaster)
  • ‘Moon’ (Bronwyn Lovell)
  • ‘Music for a season moving’ (Mia Slater)
  • ‘whero’ (Stacey Teague)
  • ‘what even r u?’ (Rae White)

The poems were judged ‘blind’ by Overland’s poetry editor Toby Fitch and poet Ali Cobby Eckermann.

The prize awards a first place of $6000, with the first runner-up receiving $2000 and the second runner-up $1000. The three poems will be published in the first issue of Overlandfor 2018 in late March. Find out more here.
