Beyond the Whodunnit

Crime is at the heart of a great many novels, regardless of where those novels fit within the huge and diverse genre of crime fiction. In this workshop we’ll look at: how to create a believable world for your fictional crime to disrupt; how to write characters who go beyond the stereotypes of villain, hero or victim; and how to create and maintain suspense. We’ll also talk about the role of voice, atmosphere and theme. Whether you’re working on a police procedural, a cosy mystery or a novel in any genre with a crime at its centre, the discussions and exercises in this course will help you move your whodunnit to the next level.
